There are numerous good books available on reptiles and turtle and tortoise care. Turtle and tortoise husbandry – or captive care – is still a developing field of study. There are many areas of care where we still don’t have all the answers. For example, no one has ever studied exactly what a wild turtle eats during its whole life. We know they are opportunistic feeders and will eat different foods depending on the seasons, but how it all adds up to proper nutrition that allows these animals to live 50 or 75 years, is still a mystery. Until we know this and the answers to many other questions, it helps to keep on reading and learning about box turtles. These books are also a source of additional resources and books on reptiles and turtles and tortoises.
